About MyFinTalk
MyFinTalk is conceived when I was googling for information regarding investments in Malaysia. At that time, most websites that I found are from foreign authors or entities. Although their information is great, some cannot be applied in Malaysia. Furthermore, certain information is hard to find. It is necessary to compile information from a few websites just to get the complete picture and this is tedious. Due to this issue, I wanted to start a blog to put what I know into words but I procrastinated. I keep on finding excuses like time constraint, inexperience in blog writing and setting up a blog, etc. In the meantime, some good and great websites about Malaysian market were also launched. This further reduced my desire to start a blog.
However, in the end, my writing bug got the best of me. Thus, MyFinTalk is set up in March 2018 to provide information regarding investing in Malaysia at one place, for your and also my convenience. I will try my best to provide the complete picture but I cannot possibly know everything. So, I will mostly write about topics that I have firsthand knowledge. My articles are intentionally kept short and concise. Whenever possible, I will also share my personal experience. Rest assured that the articles are definitely authentic and not pure advertisements/marketing ploys (but there might be some advertisements and/or affiliate links which I will clearly point out).
Having only one contributor (yours truly) to this blog, mistakes are inevitable. Feel free to correct me in the comment section. I will correct my mistakes after verification. Due to increased commitments, I have reduced my posting frequency from twice per week to once per week in 2022.
In 2023, I have obtained my financial planning license and found out that I could not freely share my opinion on equities and unit trusts. Thus, I have removed some old posts. Going forward, I am still going to share my my monthly transactions and dividends received. However, I am not going to share my opinion on the stocks, they will just serve as a record.
Since I could not share much on investments, I decided to pivot to financial planning. Starting in October 2023, I will primarily share on financial planning matters, specifically personal finance. I will still discuss about investments but not individual stocks and unit trusts anymore. I hope that this change will still provide great value to you.
Happy reading!
About Me
I am Leckas. I like to read and write (that’s the reason I started this blog). Why did I choose investment as the theme of this blog? Because it interests me a lot since I started to read about it in university. My investing journey started in 2007 when I used the money from my part-time job to purchase my first mutual fund. It was a Public Mutual fund by the way (I have sold all my units in 2023). I began to invest on Bursa Malaysia after I have my formal job in 2010.
Throughout the years, mistakes were made, money was lost. But at the same time, I had my winners too. Overall, my total return is still positive but maybe not at a percentage that I imagined it would be. Nonetheless, I would say my profit is not bad. In this blog, I hope to share with you the knowledge gained in my investing journey. Through continuous learning and maybe from interaction with you (do leave comments/feedback, I will reply as soon as possible), we can all improve our investment returns together.
I have finished and passed the Registered Financial Planner (RFP) course in 2022. In 2023, I have registered with Securities Commission (SC) and got its approval to be a licensed financial planner. This is my license number: eCMSRL/C3167/2023 which you can check from SC website (Link). I have also gotten my unit trust consultant license (780-0-20260) and private retirement scheme consultant license (P-708-0-20195) from Federation of Investment Managers Malaysia (Link). The firm that I am attached is VKA Wealth Planners (Link). If you are interested to work together for your finances, do leave your details by clicking here.
Due to the reasons explained above, I will stop writing about individual stock now. Nonetheless, financial planning also encompasses investments, thus the theme of investment will still continue. Personal finance also fascinates me, so I hope you would find the change in my blog helpful too.
That’s all about me. I hope you will enjoy reading my blog.
