The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) has declared its dividend for 2022 and the rate is 5.35% (2021: 6.10%) for conventional savings and 4.75% (2021: 5.65%) for Simpanan Shariah. This dividend rate is slightly higher than I expected.
Dividend history
As my own account is the conventional savings, I am going to list its dividend rate of the past five years.
2017: 6.90%
2018: 6.15%
2019: 5.45%
2020: 5.20%
2021: 6.10%
The current dividend is not the lowest in this six-year period. Its dividend rate is better than the performance of KLCI (-4.60%) in 2022.
Conclusion
I expected the dividend rate of EPF would be 5% at best due to the headwind it faced in the past year. To achieve my financial goal, I require an annual dividend rate of 5% from EPF. Thus, it fulfilled its purpose to me. Hopefully the dividend of 2023 will be better than this so that I can achieve my goal sooner.
