Investopedia

Since I have quoted so many times from Investopedia, I would be remiss not to write an article about it in this blog. It is like taking people’s ideas without giving credit (although I did give credit to them). What does it do? And why do I use it so often?

Taken directly from its About Investopedia web page,

“Sharper Insight. Smarter Investing.

Investopedia is the world’s leading source of financial content on the web, with more than 30 million unique visitors and 90 million page views each month.

Wholly owned by IAC (NASDAQ: IAC), Investopedia is the largest financial education website in the world. Powered by a team of data scientists and financial experts, Investopedia offers timely, trusted and actionable financial information for every investor, from early investors to financial advisors to high net worth individuals. Investopedia is operated by IAC Publishing, a collection of some of the web’s largest and most trusted digital media brands. Personal experience

In essence, Investopedia is a website specializing in providing financial information. This website offers a lot of features and the great thing is that most of these features are free. There are financial dictionary, market simulator, a forum for experts to field questions, guides, tutorials, featured courses (require fees in US dollars) and tons of articles.

Most, if not all, financial topics are covered. Anything regarding finance, you can always find it here. From simple definition to in-depth explanation, you can get the answer at your fingertips. Just make sure you don’t overload your brain with all those information. In short, it is a great educational website. It is like Wikipedia, only that the main and only field of Investopedia is finance and investments.

Everything sounds great except a drawback for Malaysians: its locality. This website is based in the US. The US market is not same as our market. Thus, some information is not applicable in Malaysia. Nonetheless, the basics of investing are the same, regardless of locality. The knowledge is transferable.

In conclusion, this is a website that I highly recommend if you would like to deepen your knowledge in the field of investment.
