This article is the final part of my 2023 investment review. For my Malaysia investment review, you may refer to this article. For my foreign investment review, you may refer to this article.
This review covers all my stocks, mutual funds, exchange traded funds (ETFs) and trust in Malaysia and US. As I am based in Malaysia, I am going to convert the US Dollar (USD)-denominated assets to Ringgit Malaysia (MYR).
Other than the annual return, I will also show the internal rate of return (IRR) of my whole portfolio.
Total return
Annual return for 2023 = +8.84% (2022: +0.08%)
IRR = +7.03% (2022: +4.93%)
For the USD conversion rate, my average conversion rate from MYR to USD is 4.3262. The current exchange rate that I use to convert USD to MYR is 4.5254.
2023 total investment review
My target annual return is 7%. As both of my portfolios had return of 7% and above, I was able to hit my target in 2023. After two consecutive years of failing to hit 7%, my portfolio finally gave me a more than 7% return.
The recession that was anticipated in 2023 did not happen. In fact, it was not such a bad year. I am not sure what 2024 holds in store for us, but I am hoping for a better year ahead.
This concludes my 2023 total investment review.
